MTSU Write is a non-degree creative writing program at Middle Tennessee State University. Built around the studio model, students work one-on-one with faculty/mentors to improve their writing skills and create a publishable manuscript.
MTSU Write operates on a trimester system. Each fall and spring session begins with a weekend orientation held on the MTSU campus. Students attend presentations on the craft of writing, build a sense of community with fellow learners, meet privately with their faculty/mentor, and set their goals for that trimester. Our summer session does not have an orientation weekend, and is not recommended for new enrollees.
The non-residency program is ideal if you want to improve your writing skills, and/or produce a sellable manuscript, but lack the time or the inclination for formal classroom study. Setting your own schedule and pace with your personal mentor allows you maximum flexibility and minimum stress.
Working with MTSU faculty as well as professional writers outside the university allows Write to offer mentoring in a wide variety of genres. In addition to fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction, we also offer mentors specializing in writing for the Internet, food and travel magazines, stage and screen, and the inspirational and spiritual markets.
